Software development is made possible thanks to computer hardware. While we don't have to worry much about the hardware to write software there are a few major things we should be aware of.
The first thing is that when you run software it runs in memory. In a computer, the physical component of this is RAM (or people just say memory). Memory is volatile, which means if the computer shuts off all the data is lost.
The CPU (processor) is what does the computation. You should be aware of the main architectures: x86 and ARM. The M processors from Apple are ARM, intel is x86. This is important to know as different architectures can introduce challenges for creating cross platform software.
